Since Matthijs Lunenburg had discovered the fun and beauty of improvisation as part of the performance of  16th and 17th century music, he decided to dedicate himself to it. Finishing the recorder studies at the  Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Bachelor & Master) with Walter van Hauwe in 2007, he already had begun  studying cornett with Wiliam Dongois in Paris, and later on Geneva, as from 2006. Studies were largely made  possible by funding through the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Since 2009 he continued his studies with Bork-  Frithjof Smith at the Staatl. Musikhochschule Trossingen. As a recorder player and member of groups like ‘The  Royal Wind Music’, he has toured Europe and the USA. Also he appeared on stage with groups such as the  Portuguese recorder consort ‘A Imagem de Melancolia’ and ‘A Fancy Compagney’. On the cornett he has been  performing with groups like ‘L’Arpa Festante’ and the ‘Marini Consort’, ‘Musiche Varie’, ‘Musica Antique  Salzburg’. Die improvisierte ´Diminutionskunst´ (Verzierungskunst) hatte er im Jahre 2004 erstmals erforscht. Seither  gilt sein Interesse ganz der Musik des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts. Das Blockflötenstudium absolvierte er  erfolgreich bei Walter van Hauwe am Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Bachelor und Master Diplom) und  begann anschließend sein Studium am Zink bei William Dongois im Jahre 2006 in Paris und Genf. Diese Studien wurden durch ein Stipendium des Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds ermöglicht. Seit 2009 studiert er Zink und  Kammermusik bei Bork-Frithjof Smith an der Staatlichen Musikhochschule in Trossingen. Als Blockflötist trat  Matthijs Lunenburg wiederholt in Europa und den USA mit Gruppen wie dem Blockflötenconsort ‘Royal Wind  Music’ (2003 - 2010) und dem portugiesischen Blockflötenconsort ‘A Imagem de Melancolia’ auf. Als Zinkenist  konzertierte er mit u.a. ‘L’Arpa Festante’, dem ‘Marini Consort’, ‘Musiche Varie’ und der ‘Musica Antique  Salzburg’.
